John A. Rowen
stringed Instruments is a full-service shop to serve the needs of String Players of violin, viola, cello and bass. My formal
training includes master classes at the University of New Hampshire Violin Craftsmanship Institute. I am a member of
the Guild of American Luthiers and a performing fiddler. My business has been operating in Boxord since 1985, first as a sideline
to my engineering career and now (since 1994) as a full-time profession. My shop hours are by appointment at your convenience.
I can be reached by phone (978)887-9279 or e-mail j.a.rowen@rowenstrings.com. Please consider my alternative to shops
in Boston, Newton, or Cambridge. I offer personal expert service at reasonable and competitive prices.

This is an example of a top-off repair. Cracks and center seam
separations are fixed using special clamps and traditional hot hide glue. Cleats of thin close-grained wood are fitted to
reinforce the repair without affecting the sound.
